MPFreaker 1.8 beta

Post by beastie » Wed Jun 18, 2008 5:33 pm

Please try out the latest release before it hits the streets! Features much improved lyrics gathering, now recognizes iTunes-downloaded artwork, and much more.

If you're already using the MPFreaker 1.8 beta, and it has told you that there is a newer version, the same link below will get it for you.

1.8b7

Post by beastie » Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:38 pm

Beta 7 improves a lot of things, but most importantly it dramatically improves the speed in which a user's iTunes Library is loaded the first time.

Previously, MPFreaker would need to manually parse through every song in your library the first time, which would take several minutes for a large library. 1.8b7 defers this parsing to a background thread. Subsequent full-library loads are also slightly faster than before, as are loading of playlists.

If you're inclined to test this initial iTunes Library load time, here's how. While MPFreaker is not running, go to your home directory / Library / Caches, and trash the "MPFreaker Song Info" folder. The format of the cache files within this folder have now changed as well.

MPFreaker 1.8b7 is available for download at the same link above.

Please let us know how it works at support@lairware.com.

Beta 8

Post by beastie » Thu Jul 10, 2008 3:47 pm

Beta 8:
  • Fixes a bug which made MPFreaker have trouble reading some MP3 song tags bug (resulting in a "(!)" red problem icon)

Fixes a bug which could cause iTunes downloaded artwork identification to stall.

    Other minor fixes and improvements.
As always, download from the URL above.

Source changes/suggestions for 1.8b?

Post by brian163 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:03 am

I ran some new albums through 1.8b9 and noticed that Little Snitch reported some differences in your Lyric look up sites since 1.7.4.

But I also noticed that another Lyric lookup/display widget I have which uses the free www.seekalyric.com hit on a whole bunch of tracks that MPFreaker's sites didn't.

Any chance of adding it to your pool? Personally, I'd rather use MPFreaker to automatically try as many sites as possible then have to click through tracks with a widget or run a couple of different apps to get the job done. (Kind of the point, correct? )

Recommending new sources of information for MPFreaker is always a good thing.

Look for seekalyric.com support in beta 10. :D

Looking at the server logs, I can see people downloading the beta at around the time of your post. Whatever was the issue, it may still remain. Or maybe there was a hiccup with the connection between us, and retrying it would have been successful.

Beta 12

Post by beastie » Thu Oct 02, 2008 9:58 am

Beta 12 is finally available. Sorry about letting b11 expire before b12 was released, but we had three crashing bugs we really had to sort out. Here's hoping this is the final 1.8 beta.

Beta 14

Beta 14 is here, with what is hopefully the last set of fixes and improvements. LairWare is known for our ridiculously long public beta periods.

Update signing issues

Post by beastie » Tue Nov 18, 2008 8:48 am

For some people, the software update mechanism is erroneously thinking that the MPFreaker update was supposed to be signed, which it wasn't.

I have added a digital signature to 1.8b14, please try updating again by launching MPFreaker 1.8b13 and let us know how it works for you.
