missing songs

Post by jkgtr » Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:19 am

After changing computers, iTunes lost about half of my library. The files are there but iTunes can't recognize them. I bought Song Sergeant on the recommendation of a guy at the Apple store who said it would fix this problem. SS realizes there are a couple thousand missing files, but wants me to throw them away! Not the cure I had in mind ...now what? Is there a method by which I can make these files valid and visible to iTunes again?

It sounds like the real problem may be that about half of your song files simply didn't get copied over to the computer. If they were still within your iTunes folder somewhere (but not where iTunes expects them), Song Sergeant would have offered to reunite these orphaned song files with your library.

Another possibility is that the thousands of song files in question ended up outside of your iTunes folder. If you can find them elsewhere on your system, you could then drag them into your iTunes/iTunes Music (or iTunes/iTunes Media for newer configurations) folder where Song Sergeant will be able to do something with them.

Thanks, I'll snoop around and give it another go!
