iPhone App

Post by ccrider » Tue Oct 14, 2008 8:08 am

Hey any chance on releasing an iPhone app version of this?

Seems like it would translate perfectly, and using the touch screen to indicate move/attack direction would work nicely.

thanks!

That's enough out of you, Craig! I don't need any more reasons to buy an iPhone, thanks!

Actually, that's a great idea. Didn't they port Ultima Underworld to the Mobile PC? As small as the package is, this would probably make an excellent iPhone app.

Although if Leon works on anything I think it should be a Mac/Carbon port of Ultima IV since it's open source. He's spoiled me. I actually have a copy of the Ultima series on CD for the PC, but I only play III because it looks so much sexier with his carbon port and updated graphics.

I mean, not to smooch his sitter or anything, but he took everything that was annoying (only four lines of motion, that damn WIND) and allowed you to turn it off or on while at the same time updating the look, feel, and sound. That's a guaranteed winner.

I'm going to keep pestering him until he does the same thing with Ultima IV. (Leon, that knock outside at three am is me. I'm not doing anything, but I AM looking pitiful and begging.)

Another vote for iPhone app!

Post by hkiphone » Tue Oct 14, 2008 11:42 pm

I just had to register specifically to put in my vote for an iPhone conversion of this awesome game!
Either this, or Ultima IV as they were my favourites.

Tacking on suggestions made by others:
Actions: Use 'gestures' like in Harry Potter (NDS) and Force Unleashed (iPhone) to perform actions. Spellcasting can be done by a swipe upwards (indicating cast a spell) then the letter of the spell.
Movement: either swiping, virtual buttons (Black Mamba, iPhone), or simply placing fingers at the edges of the screens (Stanza, iPhone).

Really excited by this. I don't have much time to play on the desktop/laptop so this would really make a great commuting game for me!

iPhone Ultima

I wish I had time to do an iPhone (or OS X) port of Ultima IV!

Certainly, a CS student with time on his or her hands could get the XU4 source code (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xu4) and wrap it in a nice multitouch interface.

It's already pretty nice for OS X, though improving XU4's graphics further would be even better. You can download the OS X build at http://xu4.sourceforge.net/download.php.

Leon
What could you POSSIBLY be doing that is more important?

Just kidding, Leon. The fact of the matter is that you spoiled me. You brought the playability of UIII and the beauty of the carbon interface together. Ultima is not only FUN to play, it's enjoyable to look at now.

The open source port of UIV is cool, and I'm glad that it was authorized and released-- and I'll embark on it after I finish handing Exodus his ass, but even in test-fires of the game it looks so old and dated.

So old... so dated...
