U3Project

Post by beastie » Thu Apr 29, 2004 7:33 am

A developer recently let me know about an Ultima III project he is part of, called U3Project. It sounds really interesting, in that it's to be a cross-platform update of Ultima III for modern computers. The most interesting part for me is the optional 3D first-person view everywhere, not just in dungeons.

The test release is (unfortunately for Mac users) currently Windows-only but looks quite promising!

Website not loading?

I just went to the www.u3project.com website, and it doesn't seem to be loading. Shame - I'm quite curious.

I've been thinking about using the TES:IV Oblivion construction set to recreate U3's britannia... I'm stuck in a hellish backwater hick town, and the lack of things to do is driving me crazy! Thus, I've been pricing out a new PC (alas, the construction set is unavailable for Mac).

Strangely, when I started playing TES:IV, at the beginning when I emerged from the sewers and see the world in all its glory - the first thing I thought about was Ultima3 - and that the world I was looking at was very close to the images I had in my head back in 1983, when I first played U3.

I recently discovered Crossover:Mac (run Windows apps on an Intel Mac). Anyone tried it on that?

Hey Leon, is this thing still going on? The website is defunct, but is has the project been moved?

U3Project appears to now be at http://www.xmission.com/~mhansen/ultima3/ as Ken mentioned above, but hasn't seen any action for over two years. :(
