Looking for fixable orphans...

Post by beastie » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:37 am

The amount of time it takes to look for fixable orphans is more directly related to how many orphaned song files Song Sergeant finds, rather than the size of your library. If you have thousands of orphans, the problem may very well be that Song Sergeant is not configured to look at the right place for your iTunes library information. If you think this is possible, launch Song Sergeant and cancel out of the library scan right away. Click the Preferences button in the upper right of the window, click the Misc tab, then click the Defaults button. This will let Song Sergeant use its own logic to find your iTunes library.

If you've done this and still get the same results, you might really have thousands of orphaned song files. With a 160GB music library, that certainly seems possible. In that case, Song Sergeant may indeed take an inordinate amount of time to look for fixable orphans. How long have you left it in this state without any change?
